Jewell L. Nelson, 88, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2025 in her home with her loving family surrounding her. Jewell was born June 11, 1936 in Cameron, WI to Paul and Katherine (Nee: Winchell) Phetteplace. On October 16, 1954 she married the love of her life, James M. Nelson in Lakewood, Colorado. Jewell graduated from Park High School and worked for J.C. Pennys as Department Head for the Boys Department. Jewell was very active, she enjoyed sewing, was a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader, taught Bible and Sunday school and was head of the Cradle Roll in church. She also enjoyed square dancing, bingo and card games with her family and friends. Most of all, she enjoyed the great family vacations they took and the strong love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jewell will be deeply missed by her husband James, her children Cathy, Bill (Deb), Tim (Sue), Jeff (Desiree), and Peg (Dave). She will also be missed by her grandchildren Chad (Andrea), Cassandra (Rob), Carrie, James (Bonnie) W., Jon W., Tanya (David) Z., Megan N., Eric (Jenny) N., Jennifer (Matt) M. and Katrina N., and her great-grandchildren Marissa, Vada, Anthony, Hugh, Asher, Nate, Hunter, Morgan, Miley, Izaiah, Ellie, Lily, Rebekah, Nora, Chloe and Josiaha. Jewell will also be greatly missed by her brothers Ron (LaDonna), Dale (Nell), Jon(Becky) and Sister Lynn (Bill), as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Otto and Carrie Nelson, brothers Richard and Paul Phetteplace, sister-in-law Mary and son Dennis Nelson. A memorial service will be held for Jewell in Strouf Funeral Home on Monday, May 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive guests on Monday, May 12, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
