Byron Kevin Cole, beloved son, father, brother, and friend, passed away on March 2, 2025, at the age of 41, the result of a tragic car accident. Born in sunny San Diego, California, Byron brought light and energy to all who knew him.
The son of Richard and Donna Cole, Byron grew up in San Diego, where his passion for tennis flourished. A natural athlete and fierce competitor, he was ranked the top 16-year-old tennis player in San Diego County in 1999. Throughout his youth and beyond, Byron played and coached tennis with the same dedication and joy that defined so much of his life.
Byron’s thirst for knowledge led him to pursue his education at University of Texas at Dallas where he continued to play tennis and pursue his other passion of computers and information technology. His sharp intellect and determination served him well in his personal life, where he could quote the Bhagavad Gita and Mitch Hedberg in equal measure, and his professional life, where he excelled in IT and and ended up as the Regional Manager and Lead IT administrator for US Heart and Vascular, a position he loved, with colleagues he adored.
Among his many accomplishments, Byron’s greatest pride and joy was his daughter, Sophia Elizabeth Cole. His love for her was boundless, and he cherished every moment they spent together. If you knew Byron, you knew all about Sophia. She was the joy and focus of his life.
Byron is survived by his parents, Richard and Donna Cole; his daughter, Sophia Elizabeth Cole and her mother Ilona Cole; and his siblings, Mara Flick, Jessica Cole, Richard Cole Jr., and Ximena Majic. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and unwavering love for his family. Seeing each other or talking on the phone never ended without “I love you”. In fact the last words he said were–“I love you guys!”
Byron will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all whose lives he touched. His memory for movie quotes and clever sense of humor will remain a source of comfort and joy to those who knew and loved him. He studied the Self Realization Lessons–which say–“No birth, no death, no caste have I. Father, Mother, have I none. Blessed Spirit I am he. I am the Infinite Happiness.” for he was! He changed our lives with his life, and has changed our lives in his passing. We love you Byron. We will never be the same.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 30 at 4:00 PM at Church Eleven32 in Allen, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Byron’s honor to a charity of your choice.
